When autumn begins to peep out over the Brenta Dolomites, every year for Madonna di Campiglio the countdown to the most awaited night begins. Less than three months, and on December 22, 2021, the 68th edition of the most historical Classic of all Italian Alpine skiing, 3Tre, will be staged in Madonna di Campiglio (Trentino, Italy).

As usual, the summer months offered the opportunity for discussion and preparation in view of the last 100 days for the 3Tre Committee, a well-trained team for an event now in its eighth straight winter as part of the FIS Men’s World Cup calendar.

Like every autumn, however, the ritual inspection of the International Ski Federation (FIS) on the Canalone Miramonti officially opens the most intense phase towards December 22nd. Accompanied by the 3Tre Committee, on Friday, September 24th, Markus Waldner (Chief Race Director of the FIS Men's World Cup) and Emmanuel Couder (Coordinator of the FIS Men's World Cup) carried out the reconnaissance on the slalom slope together with Franco Scotton and Sandro De Manincor, respectively producer and director of the Infront TV production.

The presence of the FIS representatives in Madonna di Campiglio offered an opportunity to deepen the important issue of health protocols, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the entire 2020-2021 season to be played behind closed doors.

The feedback provided by the FIS allows a cautious optimism on the possibility of having fans back by the Canalone Miramonti slope, as explained by 3Tre President Lorenzo Conci. “The coming season will not be a return to full normality yet, as COVID tests and the “bubbles” separation will continue over the winter, albeit with some adjustments. Let's not forget, however, that these procedures allowed us to hold a World Cup season in safe conditions, at a time in which skiing was not even allowed in Italy as well as in many other Countries."

"However," continued Conci, "the FIS top management is open to the possibility of having public back to the show, which is certainly the goal we are working for, albeit possibly in limited numbers. We are working in close collaboration with the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Provincial Health Services Agency, as well as with the Madonna di Campiglio Tourist Board, Funivie Campiglio and the Municipalities of Pinzolo and Tre Ville, to agree on a policy to fully protect the safety of athletes and all the people involved in the event, and at the same time to enhance an excellence of Italian skiing and sports, as well as a huge opportunity for promotion for an entire territory. "

“It’s is still too early to say how many people could be allowed, but we feel optimistic that on December 22nd, the Canalone Miramonti will finally reopen its doors to the people,” concluded Conci.

On December 22nd, the 68th 3Tre will take place under the spotlights, with the first run scheduled for 5.45 pm CET and the second and decisive descent taking place at 8.45 pm CET.
