The Austrian ski superstar, owner of a Luxembourg passport, will arouse old and new passions at the 66th 3Tre. The 5-time World Cup champion will receive from the 3Tre Committee the "Maglia Fulmine" for his win in the 1984 edition (Super-G) – the last time of speed World Cup competitions in Madonna
35 years have passed since Marc Girardelli's triumph in Madonna di Campiglio, the first claimed by the Austrian ski superstar in a World speed competition. On that occasion, Girardelli won the Super-G, showing the entire World his all-rounder’s talent.
3Tre's 1984 edition was the last time of the World Cup speed competitions in Madonna and the beginning of the Girardelli legend, a champion stronger than everyone - opponents and bad luck.
On Wednesday, January 8th, 2020, for the 66th 3Tre (first run: 5.45 pm CET, second run: 8.45 pm CET), in the Pearl of Dolomites there will be room for the history of skiing. In fact, Marc Girardelli will receive from the 3Tre Committee the Maglia Fulmine and the memory of fans and journalists can only redeem the incredible race of December 17th, 1984.
3Tre spectators lived a thrilling day with Girardelli winner ahead of another '80s ski superstars, Pirmin Zurbriggen. In older times, also speed competitions used to be at home in Campiglio: starting with the #11 bib, Girardelli made full display of his talent by sketching trajectories impossible to imitate for his rivals.
The winner in Madonna brought Girardelli in a different dimension. The Austrian won 5 World Cups, achieving many wins in all the disciplines, a remarkable Palmares if compared with the number of injuries that have marked his career. Girardelli is a manifesto of greatness: he has been able to overcome the injuries and the limits set by the medicine that prognosticated for him pacing difficulties and 15% of disqualification for the left leg.
For this reason, the hearts of the ski fans stop for him, notwithstanding its confidential nature. Girardelli is a taciturn man who knows how to express his art when his skis are on.
Between current champions and legends of the past, the 66th edition of 3Tre will be a great celebration. Two unique days for fans and supporters, who still remember the emotions of one of the most exciting ages in the ski alpine history.
"Marc is a point of reference for an entire generation of athletes – explains the 3Tre President Lorenzo Conci. – His merits go way beyond the great triumphs: Girardelli was an example of determination and courage. We are honored to give him the Maglia Fulmine. His greatness deserves to be celebrated by the 3Tre fans who never forgot him".
On Wednesday, January 8th, 3Tre schedules the first run at 5.45 pm CET and the second run at 8.45 pm CET, featuring the "3Tre Hour" between the two runs at Sissi Square. What's more - a lot of fun and music will be the protagonists of the "3Tre Party Night" after the races.
