Special guest of the Night Slalom of Wednesday January 8th, the Italian former champion returns to Madonna di Campiglio to join Girardelli, Kostelić, Gros, Rocca, Edalini and Bréchu
Alberto Tomba is set to join the number of ski legends expected in Madonna di Campiglio, at the Audi FIS World Cup Night Slalom on the Canalone Miramonti on Wednesday January 8th.
After the 64th edition, also the 66th 3Tre will be characterized by Tomba’s charisma: more than 30 years ago, Alberto revolutionized the “White Circus”, jump starting a new sports and cultural age with no precedents in the ski universe.
Tomba was a “sensation” in Italy, when the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival was interrupted to announce his triumph at the Calgary ’88 OG. In 1987, the Canalone Miramonti supporters celebrated Tomba’s first win at 3Tre, despite an issue to his boot and a pole that fell in front of him during the second run. Tomba conquered two more wins in Madonna (1988 and 1995) in a decade of greatness characterized by 5 Olympic medals, 4 World medals, 50 World Cup wins and the 1995 overall World Cup title.
At the 3Tre, the Italian former champion will join a panel of legends and the slalom’s top guns. In addition to Tomba, Madonna will welcome his main rival Marc Girardelli, Ivica Kostelić, Piero Gros, Giorgio Rocca, Ivano Edalini and Henri Bréchu for a total of seven “Maglie Fulmine” from the past.
“Tomba has been the most representative ski champion in Italy – said the 3Tre President Lorenzo Conci. – Alberto’s triumphs aroused interest and passion without precedents in Italy. In the 1987 edition, Madonna di Campiglio welcomed a rising star, who then became a champion: 33 years later, we hope that history repeats itself, possibly with another Italian standing out on the scene”.
On Wednesday, January 8th, 3Tre schedules the first run at 5.45 pm CET and the second run at 8.45 pm CET, featuring the "3Tre Hour" between the two runs at Sissi Square. What's more - a lot of fun and music will be the protagonists of the "3Tre Party Night" after the races. Not to be missed is the amazing eve's Public Draw on Tuesday, January 7th (7.00 pm CET) at Sissi Square. Online tickets for the Night Slalom are available online on the event's website.
