Canalone Miramonti

All the secrets of the Canalone Miramonti slope designed by Bruno Detassis.

Start
Start
The entrance to the Campiglio slope is gradual, usually with a couple of corner gates to control the pace before speeding up for the first change of gradient.

Second change in gradient of the Canalone Miramonti: setting up for the entry into the diagonal traverse.
Diagonal approach
Diagonal approach
The diagonal in the counter-slope is the first delicate passage: the track leads the athlete to the left, you have to be skilled and precise to get up and find the right time.
Knee of the Canalone
Knee of the Canalone
The "knee" takes the athletes to the Miramonti wall, famous for its difficulty and always perfect when the athletes pass by.
Wall of the Canalone
Since a few seasons, the section of the wall is even closed during race day, so that it cannot be damaged during recognition. This is one of the most technical sections of the FIS World Cup.
Last gradient switch
Do you think the job is done? Not even close. The last few gates are less steep, but enlivened by a couple of bumps that have provided spectacular images and breath-taking passages in recent seasons.
Magazzino Section and Finish line

And lastly the finish line, immersed in the heart of Madonna di Campiglio. The runs on the Canalone Miramonti last between 45 and 48 seconds: a duration that also makes it possible to optimise the TV performance, enhancing the images of the finish line and the context in preparation for the next start.

The History

Designed in 1940 by mountaineer and director of the first ski school in Madonna di Campiglio Bruno Detassis, the “Lord of Brenta”, Canalone Miramonti is a true skiing legend.

In 1967, it hosted the very first World Cup race held in Italy, which ended with a French trio on the podium: Perillat, Jauffret and Lacroix. Numerous 3Tre events have been held on this slope, including World Cup and European Cup races, the historic event created in 1948, which has become a regular fixture on the FIS World Cup calendar.
