11-14 January 1951, Paganella – Serrada di Folgaria – Bondone
The “Three-Day Ski Event” returns in 1951 to the same slopes that hosted the previous year’s races. Unfortunately, the stars of the inaugural edition — Colò, Alverà and Gartner — are missing: amid considerable controversy, they are sent to Wengen to compete in the Lauberhorn downhill. Ermanno Nogler dominates the opening downhill, finishing ahead of Madonna di Campiglio’s Amedeo Catturani.
In Folgaria, the 3Tre celebrates its first-ever foreign victory, as France’s Firmin Mathis finishes ahead of Austria’s Zauner. Nogler is only twelfth after being penalised by the jury for knocking down a slalom pole — a reminder of the rules of a bygone era!
Another Frenchman, Gerard Pasquier, wins the giant slalom on Monte Bondone. Nogler, however, retains the Maglia Fulmine as leader of the combined standings and takes home a brand-new 65cc Moto Guzzi motorcycle and 250,000 Italian lire in prize money.
