1957 – The Beginning of an Era: The 3Tre Arrives in Madonna di Campiglio

15-17 February 1957, Madonna di Campiglio

After racing on the slopes of several different resorts across Trentino, the 3Tre finally arrives in Madonna di Campiglio, where it will find its “natural home” and remain, with only a few exceptions, for good.
Much of the credit goes to Gianvittorio Fossati Bellani, Lombard by birth but a true Campigliano by choice and adoption. At the time, he was president of the local lift company and technical director of the Italian national ski team.

The first Madonna di Campiglio edition is marked by uncertainty and an exceptionally even field, with no clear favourite emerging before the races. In the end, Toni Mark’s class makes the difference: the Austrian claims victory in the downhill and goes on to top the overall standings.
