9-10 January 1971, Madonna di Campiglio (World Cup)
By 1971, the 3Tre giant slalom has become a firmly established fixture on the international ski circuit and is held entirely on the Pancugolo course.
Once again, La Marseillaise echoes across the snowy slopes of Trentino, as Henri Duvillard takes victory ahead of fellow Frenchman Patrick Russel and South Tyrol’s Gustav Thoeni.
On the steep Miramonti wall, however, Gustav responds in style. His victory in the Madonna di Campiglio slalom confirms the hopes that Italian skiing has placed in its rising star.
