The Sapporo Winter Olympics have firmly established the two Thoenis among the stars of international skiing, with Gustav also in contention for the overall World Cup title. This year, the 3Tre is split between two venues: the downhill and giant slalom are held in Val Gardena, while the slalom takes place in Madonna di Campiglio.
The races in South Tyrol belong to the Swiss, with Bernhard Russi winning the downhill and Edmund Bruggmann taking the giant slalom. On the Miramonti, however, it is Rolando Thoeni who triumphs, also securing victory in the combined standings.

One name stands above all: Piero Gros. He steals the show in the December edition with a remarkable victory on the Miramonti, despite starting with bib number 42. It is only the second victory of what will become an unforgettable career.
The memory of this extraordinary achievement is powerful enough to overshadow even the victories of Switzerland’s Roland Collombin in the downhill and Austria’s David Zwilling in the giant slalom.
