An American finally brings Stenmark’s dominance at the 3Tre to an end. Phil Mahre wins the December 1981 slalom, finishing ahead of the Swedish champion and Italy’s Paolo De Chiesa.
The 33rd edition of the 3Tre is also set to feature a world first: the inaugural test event of a brand-new discipline, the Super-G. However, a lack of snow forces the race to be moved to Val Badia.
