December 1997, Madonna di Campiglio (World Cup – Organised but Not Raced)
Controversy, a race cancelled in front of thousands of spectators, and a heated press conference at the Centro Rainalter: in a few words, this is the story of the 49th edition of the 3Tre, scheduled for Monday, 22 December 1997.
Just minutes before the start, with the athletes already at the gate and ready to race, International Ski Federation official Günther Hujara calls off the Madonna di Campiglio slalom. The official reason: technical shortcomings in the preparation of the snow surface.
The 3Tre thus enters one of the most difficult moments in its history. Dropped from the World Cup calendar, the historic Trentino event is forced to start again from scratch.
