2012 - The World Cup Returns to Campiglio

18 December 2012, Madonna di Campiglio (World Cup)

The 59th edition of the 3Tre marks a magnificent return for Madonna di Campiglio to the World Cup circuit.

The 3Tre had missed the World Cup — and the 12,000 spectators who gather along the Miramonti on the evening of Tuesday, 18 December 2012 are the clearest proof that the passion for this historic race has never faded.

The entire resort comes together to make the event a success. The course is prepared to perfection: a sheet of ice that puts the skills of the world’s finest slalom specialists to the ultimate test.

Fittingly, victory goes to Austrian superstar Marcel Hirscher, the reigning overall World Cup champion, ahead of his great German rival Felix Neureuther, son of Christian Neureuther, who had triumphed in the combined in Madonna di Campiglio in 1979.

Japan’s Naoki Yuasa completes the podium in third place after producing a remarkable second run.

The organisers’ satisfaction at the success of the 3Tre’s World Cup comeback is, however, overshadowed by the dramatic medical emergency suffered by ski instructor Bertocci during the first run.

2. Felix Neureuther (GER)
