Something new with a taste of the past: this is what makes the December 2013 edition of the 3Tre particularly special.
Thanks to the commitment of the local lift company, the organisers are able to present the FIS with a brand-new course designed for speed events, running down the western slopes of Monte Pancugolo above the Canalone Miramonti.
The new course is immediately put to the test. For its 60th edition, the 3Tre brings downhill racing back to Madonna di Campiglio for the first time since 1975.
The European Cup takes the opportunity to stage two downhill races, with a third event — a rescheduled Super-G — also planned before bad weather and fog force its cancellation.
The two downhills are dominated by Switzerland, with young Swiss talents Marc Gisin and Nils Mani taking one victory each. Home favourite Paolo Pangrazzi, the reigning Italian downhill champion, also delivers two strong performances, finishing sixth and fourth.
