Felix Neureuther and Fritz Dopfer make it a historic German 1-2 as the 3Tre returns to the World Cup calendar on Monday, 22 December 2014, two years after Hirscher’s triumph.
The tight course set for the first run plays perfectly to Neureuther’s strengths, while unexpectedly causing problems for Austria’s Marcel Hirscher, the reigning overall World Cup champion, who struggles on the soft snow following an unusually mild December.
Some 13,000 spectators pack the sides of the course, once again confirming the enduring appeal and importance of the 3Tre on the World Cup stage. It is a hugely satisfying night for the Madonna di Campiglio organisers, followed by even better news a few months later.
At the FIS Congress in Bulgaria in June 2015, the 3Tre’s return is made permanent, securing its place as a regular fixture on the Alpine Ski World Cup calendar.
