3Tre Madonna di Campiglio celebrates 70th anniversary with World Cup Night Slalom

It is often said that narrating the history of 3Tre and Madonna di Campiglio is one and the same. Although Madonna di Campiglio was famous before the first edition of 3Tre, since 1957, this Italian classic has found its permanent home in the Pearl of the Dolomites, forever linking its future to this iconic resort of Trentino.

Tomorrow, on Friday, December 22nd, 3Tre Madonna di Campiglio celebrates its 70th edition, an anniversary signifying prestige for this historic Italian classic. 3Tre's impact extends beyond winter sports; it is an event that has a place in the heart and memory of every Italian.

The 2023 edition (first run at 17.45, second run at 20:45) is the latest chapter in this legendary history. The prize at stake is the new Maglia Fulmine by UYN, one of the most iconic awards in world skiing, and a prestigious achievement that adorns the palmarès of every champion.

New for this edition, 3Tre Madonna di Campiglio will award the youngest finisher of the second run with the Renato Valentini trophy, dedicated to the memory of the local former Italian National Team skier. The trophy is a sculpture by Trentino’s artist Mastro 7 representing a mountain flower called “Raponzolo di Roccia”, an endemic plant from the Eastern Alps.

YULE AND KRISTOFFERSEN AIM FOR A FOURTH VICTORY… AND LEGENDARY STATUS
Two national teams, Switzerland and Norway, stand out for the quality and number of their athletes as favorites for the 3Tre Night Slalom. They are led by reigning champion Daniel Yule and Henrik Kristoffersen, respectively. Both are aiming for their fourth victory at the Madonna di Campiglio slalom.

Switzerland's Ramon Zenhausern and Loïc Meillard, along with Norwegians Alexander Steen Olsen, Atle Lie McGrath, and 2021 3Tre champion Sebastian Foss-Solevåg, are poised to challenge as dark horses. However, the Austrian team enters the slalom with high morale following their triumphant first World Cup slalom victory in Gurgl, secured by Manuel Feller, with Marco Schwarz and Michael Matt also on the podium. Germany's best hope, Linus Strasser, who placed third in 2022, is seeking victory for his team, which hasn't won since Felix Neureuther's triumph in 2014.

Swede Kristoffer Jakobsen and Frenchman Clement Noel are contenders not to be overlooked. Two years ago, the Olympic champion nearly secured a remarkable victory but made a costly error at the final gate. In the same vein, Italy's Alex Vinatzer, who placed third in 2020, aspires to delight the local supporters with a victory after 18 years, alongside his compatriots Tommaso Sala, Stefano Gross, Giuliano Razzoli, and Tobias Kastlunger.

SKIING LEGENDS CONVENE IN MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO
3Tre is one of just five events that have been part of the World Cup since its inaugural season in 1966/67. Its past winners maintain a deep connection with this Italian classic. Numerous legends – including Tomba, Girardelli, Rocca, Krizaj, Sykora, Gros, and Edalini – will be present in Madonna di Campiglio for the 3Tre Champions' Dinner, taking place today, Thursday, December 21st. They, along with the spectators, will celebrate the achievements of the champions vying to etch their names into 3Tre history.

In addition to the legends, thousands of fans are expected to flock to Madonna di Campiglio to witness one of the World Cup's most technical slaloms. This year, the 3Tre Committee has further enhanced the spectator experience by introducing a new skybox on the Canalone Miramonti slope, augmenting the 3Tre Lounge and VIP terrace.

As usual, the trackside audience will be joined by millions of television viewers around the globe, thanks to the event's production and broadcasting managed by Infront Sports & Media.

THE PROGRAM: TONIGHT THE PUBLIC BIB DRAW IN PIAZZA SISSI
The 3Tre festivities begin today, December 21st, with music and entertainment, featuring the traditional public bib draw in Piazza Sissi and a Meet & Greet with the UYN athletes in Piazza Brenta Alta.

Tomorrow, Friday, December 22nd, the Night Slalom's two runs are scheduled for 17:45 and 20:45 CET, capped off with an evening of music and celebration in the 'Pearl of the Dolomites.'

Madonna di Campiglio is primed for the event. Let the festivities commence.
