There are many good reasons why 3Tre occupies a special place in the heart of the ski fans, in Italy and beyond. Madonna di Campiglio’s ski classic has a glorious history, of course, and the charm of the night race under the spotlights, surrounded by incredible fans that highlight triumphs and defeats of the slalom’s champions.

Despite a new edition characterized by Covid restrictions, the news of the reopening of Canalone Miramonti’s gates unleashed the enthusiasm of the ski fans in view of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Night Slalom to be held tomorrow, on Wednesday, December 22nd (first run: 17.45, second run: 20.45 CET).

Over 3.000 tickets are available for the comeback of the public in Madonna: based on the most recent Italian legislation, a COVID pass from vaccination or healing from COVID-19 within the last 6 months is needed to access the Canalone Miramonti (Italy’ Green Pass ‘rafforzato’). It won’t be the usual Madonna’s crowd, but still the athletes will seize the cheering from the sides of the slope. 

In 70 years, the 3Tre has made a habitude of turning ski prospects into champions, and champions into legends. The stars on the rise of the 2021 edition are Clément Noël and Alex Vinatzer: the Frenchman has just achieved his first World Cup win in Val d’Isere, but he’s still chasing the glory in Trentino’s classic. On the other hand, Vinatzer collects the hopes of the Italian fans, who hope to see him claim his maiden World Cup win in the home race, and break Italy’s winless streak at 3Tre: Giorgio Rocca was the last Italian to triumph in the 3Tre Slalom, in the 2005 edition. A Vinatzer’s masterpiece would be the icing of the cake of a memorable year of sports for Italy. 

On the other hand, after a disappointing performance in Val d’Isere, Henrik Kristoffersen redeemed himself by winning the Alta Badia giant slalom and looks to regain his best slalom feeling on his favourite slope, the Canalone Miramonti. The Norwegian is the 3Tre defending champion: last year, he won the Madonna Night Slalom for the third time. In case of a fourth win, Kristoffersen would enter the 3Tre legends’ list, overtaking Alberto Tomba in the multiple winners ranking, only one triumph behind leader Ingemar Stenmark.

Tomba himself will closely follow Kristoffersen's attempt: the champion from Bologna is announced among the guest stars of the 3Tre 2021, together with one of his greatest rivals, Marc Girardelli.

Among those who are aiming at the podium of the 3Tre, there is fellow Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag, runner-up last year and in great shape also in the opening stage of Val d'Isere. The Swiss team can count on two-time winner Daniel Yule as well as on Ramon Zenhaeusern, while the Austrians are trying to fill the void left by Marcel Hirscher's retirement with the skills of the versatile Marco Schwarz, holder of the Slalom World Cup title, brother-of-art Michael Matt and the aggressiveness of Manuel Feller. 

Sweden's Kristoffer Jacobsen and Croatia's Filip Zubcic, respectively second and third in the first slalom of the season in France, also could have a say in the race. 

Also this year, there will be a further motivation for the 3Tre contenders: the 'Maglia Fulmine', a symbol that goes back to its glorious past and to the 50's, when 3Tre meant "3 races in TREntino" and the first in the ranking was wearing a yellow jersey as it happens for the Tour de France leader. With the Maglia Fulmine, realised together with Falconeri, the 3Tre Committee will reward the winner at the end of the two runs. 

After one year off due to the pandemic emergency, part of the collateral events will be back in Campiglio. Today, on Tuesday, December 21st, starting from 18.30 CET in Piazza Sissi, there will be the bib draw for the first 7 athletes of the world slalom ranking, open to 500 spectators, who must be in possession of a COVID pass obtained exclusively by vaccination or recovery from Covid-19 within the last 6 months (Italy’s Green Pass Rafforzato).

The bib draw will be preceded by the 3Tre side events: 

• 17.30 CET: Presentation of the “La Ragione” newspaper, with Director Fulvio Giuliani and the Madonna di Campiglio Tourism Board President Tullio Serafini;
• 17.50 CET: 3Tre panel dedicated to the cycling events of the Madonna summer season with Trentino’s former cycling champions Francesco Moser and Maurizio Fondriest, and Eurosport cycling commentator Riccardo Magrini.
• 18.10 CET: Presentation of the book “The Great History of 3Tre” with author Paolo Luconi Bisti and Giorgio Rocca.

After the public bib draw, the local athlete Laura Pirovano will introduce the Italian National Team at 19.10 CET. 

Tomorrow, on December 22nd, music and entertainment between the two runs will be brought by Radio Deejay, whilst the program of side events will continue with the participation of guests such as Trentino’s Sports and Tourism Assessor Roberto Failoni, Marc Girardelli, Italian runner Yeman Crippa and former MotoGP champion Marco Melandri.

All five Continents will be tuned in with the Brenta Dolomites and Trentino, thanks to the production and distribution by Infront Sports & Media. Eurosport will broadcast the event in Europe and Asia, whilst the night slalom will be aired in the USA thanks to NBC.

More than 3000 tickets have been made available for purchase by the 3Tre Committee, exclusively online. The access to the Canalone Miramonti will be reserved to the holders of a COVID pass obtained exclusively by vaccination or recovery from Covid-19 in the last 6 months (Green Pass Rafforzato or Super Green Pass). Children under 12 years of age are exempt from presenting the Green Pass.
