Two quiet young Italians line up at the start of the 20th edition of the 3Tre. They are relatives, and their names are Rolando Thoeni, wearing bib number 87, and Gustavo Thoeni, with number 89: a first glimpse of what the future of skiing has in store.
The downhill in Madonna di Campiglio, however, is dominated by the Swiss, with Michel Daetwyler taking victory ahead of Kurt Huggler and Bernhard Russi.
After the Swiss take centre stage in the downhill, it is Germany’s turn in the giant slalom, with Gerhard Prinzing winning ahead of compatriot Joseph Haeckemuller. Italy finally celebrates in the closing slalom, where Felix de Nicolò claims victory.
