12 December 2005, Madonna di Campiglio (World Cup)
Under heavy snowfall, Giorgio Rocca — finally! — celebrates a long-awaited victory at the peak of his career. The Italian claims the top step of the podium ahead of another great slalom specialist, Austria’s Benjamin Raich.
The snow falling throughout the second run adds a bittersweet note to the 3Tre. By then, the International Ski Federation has made clear its intention to look elsewhere — to Alta Badia — to host Italy’s World Cup slalom in the seasons ahead.
The 3Tre thus enters the longest absence from the international stage in its history: four years away from the World Cup, before another change at the helm of the Organising Committee marks the beginning of a new chapter.
