Milan might be three and a half hours away from Madonna di Campiglio, but the connection between the Lombardy’s metropolis and the Val Rendena feels stronger than ever, as does the passion of the Milan’s fans even after a year behind closed doors.

On Wednesday, December 1st, the Madonna di Campiglio’s event returned to Milan for a classic fixture of the 3Tre on Tour, the promotional tournée of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Night Slalom (68th edition of the 3Tre) to be held on Wednesday, December 22nd (first run: 17.45, second run: 20.45 CET).

3Tre was welcomed with enthusiasm at Milan’s GUD Bocconi by journalists and fans, who are now looking forward to the first skiing opportunities of the season. The slopes in the Madonna di Campiglio skiarea were opened on November 20th with a great attendance, and are open every day from November 29th, with the snowfalls of the last weekend to further enhance the beauty and charme of the Brenta Dolomites.

The 3Tre Committee was joined in Milan by three Italian former athletes like Ivano Edalini, Piero Gros and Paolo De Chiesa, who entertained the public with stories and jokes.

One of these anecdotes brought the timeline back to 1974, when De Chiesa was beaten by Stenmark (taking his maiden World Cup victory) in the 3Tre slalom, whilst Piero Gros claimed the giant slalom on the day after. That edition of 3Tre also had a combined classification, won by De Chiesa but wrongly recorded in the book and assigned to Gros. A mistake that was revealed by the research of 3Tre’s historian Paolo Luconi Bisti, author of the new book “The Great History of 3Tre”, and amened in Milan by giving to De Chiesa the much cherished Maglia Fulmine, the symbol of 3Tre’s champions.

Piero Gros himself and the 3Tre President Lorenzo Conci awarded Paolo De Chiesa with the Maglia Fulmine.Giving Paolo De Chiesa the Maglia Fulmine is a special moment for us. Paolo has always been one of us, a real 3Tre friend, as an athlete first and as TV commentator now. Thanks to Paolo Luconi Bisti’s research, the Maglia Fulmine club has become even more prestigious”.

The Maglia Fulmine is a magnificent gift from 3Tre and Madonna di Campiglio, to which I feel deeply related, even though I consider only the race winners to be the ‘real’ 3Tre champions. Wearing this jersey is hugely emotional for me,” Paolo De Chiesa told.

The 3Tre on Tour event in Milan was the occasion to present the main themes of the 2021 edition. The Canalone Miramonti slope awaits the comeback of the fans after a 2020 edition held without public. A powerful message of restart for the 3Tre Committee and Madonna di Campiglio: the 3Tre represents an international showcase for the area as a whole, as pointed out by the Madonna di Campiglio Tourist Board President Tullio Serafini.

Tonight we are back to celebrate the friendship between Milan and Madonna di Campiglio, and that’s a beautiful feeling – Serafini said.  “Now we look forward to welcoming our Milan’s friends back to Trentino, in Madonna, where they will find an ideal environment to enjoy top-quality skiing and winter activities in the best safety conditions.”

On December 22nd, the Azzurri team will try to return to winning ways at 3Tre, 16 years after the triumph of Giorgio Rocca in 2005. Third last year, Alex Vinatzer will arguably be Italy’s best option, though he will be confronted by the likes of defending champion Henrik Kristoffersen, Swiss Daniel Yule and Frenchman Clement Noel, among others.

The online tickets sales are open on www.3trecampiglio.it. Based on the most recent Italian rules, a COVID pass from vaccination or healing from COVID-19 within the last 6 months is needed to access the Canalone Miramonti, except for children under 12 years of age.
