London kicks off the 3Tre on Tour, launching the road to the FIS World Cup Night Race

With less than two months to go until the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Night Race on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, Italy’s oldest alpine skiing classic has opened its promotional tour in the British capital, welcomed by the Kandahar Ski Club. Among the guests at the Oriental Club were Italy’s Deputy Ambassador to London, Riccardo Smimmo, and Giorgio Rocca, the last Italian to win in Madonna di Campiglio twenty years ago. And in just one week, the slopes of the Grosté area  will welcome their first skiers of the season in Madonna di Campiglio

London kicks off the 3Tre on Tour, launching the road to the FIS World Cup Night Race

There is something magical about the way snow brings stories and people together, linking far-flung places and generations of enthusiasts. For the second consecutive year, this tradition has been renewed in London, where the 3Tre once again brought a breath of mountain air to the heart of the United Kingdom.

On Thursday, November 13th, London turned into a window onto the Brenta Dolomites and Madonna di Campiglio, with its dynamic elegance and unmistakable international flair. Inside the refined Oriental Club, just steps from Bond Street, guests soaked in the scent of snow and history, celebrating the long-standing bond between Madonna di Campiglio and the British ski community.

The opening event of the 3Tre on Tour drew a full house, just weeks ahead of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Night Race scheduled for Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, on the legendary Canalone Miramonti. Those in attendance included Italy’s Deputy Ambassador to the UK, Riccardo Smimmo; 3Tre President Lorenzo Conci; and the 3Tre Marketing, Communications and Events Manager, Andrea Busignani, who also serves as Councillor for Major Events for the Municipality of Pinzolo; Loredana Bonazza, Senior Manager for Partnerships and PR at the Madonna di Campiglio Tourism Board; 3Tre Ambassador Giorgio Rocca; members of the media; and key stakeholders. The evening was hosted by Bobby Cohen, President of the Kandahar Ski Club, together with honorary member William Lunn.

It was a group of British skiers, more than a century ago, who first “discovered” Madonna di Campiglio as an ideal ski destination. From that encounter emerged a connection that has long blended British elegance with Trentino passion. Inspired by the Kandahar Ski Club’s combined race format, the founders of 3Tre added giant slalom to downhill and slalom in 1950, creating the “3Tre” — three racing days in Trentino. In 1957 the event found its permanent home in Madonna di Campiglio, establishing itself as a symbol of alpine skiing heritage. In 1967, 3Tre was the only Italian event included in the inaugural World Cup calendar.

“A year later, we have once again felt an extraordinary atmosphere. The bond between 3Tre, Madonna di Campiglio, the Kandahar Ski Club, and the British winter sports community is stronger than ever. We now look forward to welcoming British fans to the Canalone Miramonti and ski lovers to Val Rendena for the winter season,” said 3Tre President Lorenzo Conci.

And the wait won’t be long: Saturday, November 22nd is the day skiing enthusiasts have circled in red, with the official opening of the Grosté area lifts. Loredana Bonazza, co-marketing project manager for the Madonna di Campiglio Tourism Board and for the 3Tre on Tour, presented the SkiArea’s new features, including optimised capacity management during peak periods and midday grooming of one of the Grosté slopes to ensure perfect snow for late risers. She also introduced the “Sia Prima” initiative, offering guests a special opportunity to experience the snow at the quietest and most enchanting time of day.

“As a passionate skier and lover of Madonna di Campiglio, I would like to express my deep appreciation for the impeccable organisation of the 3Tre, one of the most prestigious and historic events on the international stage. This year, with the Olympics approaching, the event takes on even greater significance as a symbol of encounter, dialogue and brotherhood among athletes and nations,” said Deputy Ambassador Riccardo Smimmo.

TOWARD THE 72ND 3TRE
With the slopes of the Madonna di Campiglio SkiArea now turning white ahead of the winter season, preparations are in full swing for the World Cup night slalom on January 7th, 2026, with the two runs set for 18:00 and 21:00 CET.

The 72nd edition of the 3Tre marks several meaningful anniversaries: thirty years since Alberto Tomba’s last win, and, above all, twenty years since the last Italian victory — remembered in London by the hero of the 2005 edition, Giorgio Rocca. “It was the best day of my career, but it’s time for an Italian to break the spell on a slope that has always been magical for our sport.”

As we await the first slalom showdown of the season in Levi, Finland, on Sunday, the most anticipated Italian contender is South Tyrolean Alex Vinatzer. His rivals will include Norway’s Kristoffersen, Haugan and McGrath; Brazil’s Braathen Pinheiro; France’s Noël; Austria’s Schwarz, Gstrein and Feller; Britain’s Ryding; Switzerland’s Yule and Meillard; and the defending champion, Bulgaria’s Popov.

A CELEBRATION OF SPORT AND PASSION. ON MONDAY, 3TRE ON TOUR LANDS IN MILAN
As usual, the eve of the 3Tre on Tuesday, January 6th, will be a celebration: Piazza Sissi in Madonna di Campiglio will host the bib draw, the prelude to an emotional race day. Over 10,000 spectators are expected on the Canalone Miramonti to experience the magic of this unique night-slalom atmosphere.

On Monday, November 17th, the 3Tre on Tour will move to the 2026 Olympic city, Milan, with the event hosted at Mediaset Studios in Cologno Monzese. Guests will include Giorgio Rocca, Ivano Edalini and Giuliano Razzoli, Italy’s last Olympic slalom champion.
